Miller Custom Rods are built from the finest components using the latest techniques. I use the proper blank and other components to fit the fishing application and the angler's budget.

This is the only part where you must accept some of what I do as a matter of trust. Of course, you will be able to see when flexing the rod that I found the spine of the rod in order to align the guides properly with the spine and with each other. [The next time you are at a chain sporting goods store in the mall look at several rods; see if the guides are aligned with each other.] At the same time you will also be able to see if the guide spacing is correct. You will not be able to see that I test cast the rod with the reel and line you will use to determine the proper placement of the butt guide. You will not be able to see that I clean the blank thoroughly prior to beginning work to insure sound glue bonds. You will not be able to see that I grind, polish and paint all guide feet. You will not be able to see the roughened inside of the reel seat to provide a better glue bond. You will not be able to see that I use multiple thin coats of both color preserver and finish rather than two thick coats of each.

Of course, the first requirement for a custom rod is that it be a fine fishing instrument. But I do not stop there. As you can see from the pictures below the creative use of color can create works of art whose visual impact is stunning. One of my favorite color combinations includes a Fuji reel seat with gold trim, SIC guides with gold frames, underwraps of metallic red thread with metallic gold thread trim bands and guides wrapped with dark gray thread to match the blank.

Dark "burl" cork rings are attractive accents in cork grips, as are contrasting trim rings in foam grips. Thread colors are available in almost all of the colors of the rainbow. Many colors of metallic thread are also available.

Decorative butt wraps are available in a variety of designs.
